Custom drummer's stick bag

I made this drum stick bag this week for my friend, Brandon. It was really challenging, but enjoyable and rewarding. He kind of helped me through the whole design process by specifying things it had to have, and yet he allowed me to really flex my own creative muscles.
It was really re4warding to finish the job. I chose to use green thread, I wanted to have the thread stand out as a design element, and found an old antique verdant button to match. There is a pocket on the back, which I hid the magnetic snaps on, to eliminate any chance of them clanging the drum kit.

The flap comes up to reveal the drumstick pockets and another misclaneous pocket.

And i finally added a brand to this one. and a little sliver of a swirl design to accent it, hidden in the underside of the flap. An M8 studio original!

new wallets

Spent a bit of time today making more biz card wallets. I like these more than traditional wallets because they are slimmer and it's easier to get to things without a bunch of stuff falling out.

they are great if you don't want to be loaded down. Especially at a concert or some such event, where you want less stuff with you so you can dance around, etc.

very satisfying

A guy came in today to order a messenger bag from me. I guess he had bought a wallet I had made almost a year ago. He said he was impressed with it, and raved about it to other people all the time. It was very satisfying to see him come back to commission another item.

There is just something about making something for someone by hand. Especially when it holds up over time. I really enjoy the commission process. It is challenging, and a learning process for sure. But there is nothing quite like it - a connection between the buyer and maker, the whole process from start to finish, is pretty cool to watch unfold.

Today I made a funky watch

My friend Jason came in earlier this week to inquire about me making a messenger bag. We discussed that and some other things and after looking around the shop, he was intrigued by the watches I had made.

He really liked the wide black and white watch face I had which ended up going on this watch, which I just completed:

It was fun having him go through all the leather options. I enjoy letting the buyer be part of the creative process, while still being allowed to use my own creative ideas on a project. As a last minute touch I sugested some star studs to go down the center of the piece. It ends up being a mix of styles that work-a little bit of the 80's, western and urban chic.

Rolling out the IPAD cases!

We found this wall street journal article on the IPAD portability conundrum to be interesting:

We started selling IPAd covers, and have found the market rather boring. A lot of them just look mass produced, and without character. By contrast here are a few we made:
